NEW DELHI: India’s electronics sector has hit a new high-water mark, with exports surging approximately 38% year-on-year during the April-November period of the current fiscal year (FY26). Driven by the government’s Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes, total electronics exports reached a staggering $31 billion in just eight months.
The Apple Effect
At the heart of this export boom is the smartphone industry, dominated by tech giant Apple. The company exported iPhones worth nearly $14 billion during this period, accounting for more than 45% of India’s total electronics export value.
Recent filings highlight a dramatic shift in Apple's global supply chain:
Global Share: One in every five iPhones produced worldwide in FY25 was made or assembled in India.
Production Value: India-based manufacturing now contributes 12% of Apple’s total global production value.
Domestic Growth: Apple India also saw record domestic sales, reaching $9 billion in the previous fiscal year.
A Decade of Transformation
Official government data presented in the Lok Sabha this week illustrates a radical transformation of India’s manufacturing landscape over the last decade.
| Category | 2014-15 | 2024-25 |
| Total Electronics Production | ₹1.9 Lakh Crore | ₹11.3 Lakh Crore |
| Total Electronics Exports | ₹38,000 Crore | Over ₹3.27 Lakh Crore |

Expanding Infrastructure and Jobs
Union Minister of State for Electronics and IT, Jitin Prasada, confirmed that the government is doubling down on infrastructure through the Modified Electronics Manufacturing Clusters (EMC 2.0) initiative.
Currently, 11 EMCs and two Common Facility Centres (CFCs) have been approved across 10 states. These clusters are expected to draw investments of over ₹1.46 lakh crore and are projected to generate approximately 1.80 lakh jobs.
To date, 123 manufacturers have committed to these clusters. While many projects remain in the developmental phase, nine units have already commenced production, bringing in an initial investment of over ₹12,500 crore and providing employment to nearly 14,000 people.
